What are the components of a quartz watch?
Quartz oscillator
Quartz is a kind of silicon oxide crystals (Silicon Oxide) can be divided into artificial crystals and natural crystals. Since natural crystals contain impurities, artificial crystals are generally used in electronic watches. When electricity is applied to the crystal, the crystal deforms mechanically. When pressure is applied to the crystal, it deforms to produce electricity. This phenomenon is called the piezoelectric effect of quartz. Because it has this characteristic and the oscillation frequency is high and stable. Therefore, it is regarded as an ideal oscillator device and used in electronic watches. Due to the use of a quartz crystal oscillator instead of the balance wheel. This makes the time accuracy of the electronic watch thousands of times higher than that of the mechanical watch.
Oscillation capacitor
The step-up, voltage-stabilizing and oscillation capacitors are small ceramic capacitors. The ceramic medium and the silver-palladium electrode layer are laminated to form a capacitor. Swiss watches are used for boosting and stabilizing capacitors. Its value is different from CMOS and use 0.2uf, 0.0147uf or 0.1uf meter. The oscillation capacitor is also known as the compensation capacitor, and different values are used due to different vibrator load capacitors. The load capacitance CL is a vibrator with 10.5PF, and the oscillation capacitance is 18PF. CL is a 12.5PFe vibrator, and 27PF is selected for the oscillating capacitor. Some CMOS products have built-in oscillating capacitors on-chip. As long as the appropriate vibrator is selected, no external oscillation capacitor is needed.
