What are the materials of the watch case?
The watch case is divided into gold case, steel case, aluminum case, copper case, titanium case, alloy case, plastic case, wooden case, etc. according to its material. We usually touch, use and choose the most watches with all-steel cases and straps. But you may not know that many watches that claim to be made of all-steel are actually copper cases. (Also called semi-steel case) Copper case (including strap) is several times lower in manufacturing cost than a full-steel watch, and there is a greater profit margin. Therefore, many businesses will make a big fuss on this point, “filling steel with copper” as a bait to attract buyers’ attention.
Therefore, here is a brief introduction to the distinction between all-steel watches and semi-steel watches:
a. The coating of the all-steel case is bright and dark, with rounded corners and no sharpness. The copper case has a bright and whitish coating, and the back of the lugs have sharp edges and corners. Generally, the ring lines formed by the cutting knife can be clearly seen on the back of the lugs. And the lines are of different depths and sizes, and the arrangement is loose and uneven. The texture of the all-steel case is delicate and well-proportioned, and they are arranged tightly and neatly.
b. Use a knife to gently scrape the edges and corners of the lugs (inspection on the inside of the back of the lugs) within a short distance. If the inside is yellow, it is a copper case.
c. The corrosion resistance of the copper case is poor. If it is improperly maintained and used for a period of time, it is prone to fading (yellow or red), blistering or peeling of the coating.
